Poongsan Corp., one of South Korea’s leading copper smelters and defense equipment makers, announced on Tuesday that it developed 155 mm extended range projectile that meets all test and evaluation criteria laid by Korean Defense Specification.

Once the new 155 mm extended-range projectile is used with the K9 self-propelled howitzer currently in operation by South Korean military, the firing range increases by 50%, from 40 km to 60 km.

The increase in artillery range will allow the South Korean military to engage targets deeper into enemy territory in real time, improving survivability and enabling a wider range of long-range strike operations.

This new extended range projectile is expected to act as another catalyst for K-defense and lead to a dramatic increase in the capability of the Korean military through mass production and fielding in 2024.
