The global monthly active user (MAU) number of Naver Corp.'s artificial intelligence (AI) translation app, Papago, has surpassed 10 million users, according to Naver Cloud on Wednesday.

The MAU of the Papago app has increased by about 30% compared to last year's figures.

The web version's MAU has also reached 7.4 million. The number of overseas users has grown by 1.5 times compared to the previous year, with over 3 million users utilizing Papago each month.

It is highly utilized in countries such as Japan, Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines, as well as in North America.

Papago currently supports translation into 15 languages, including Korean, English, Japanese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Spanish and French. It is utilized in various Naver apps, the Whale browser and the LINE messenger.

The image translation service incorporates technologies such as translating text within images and removing text from original images to create background images.

The company stated that the usage of image translation has increased fivefold since the release of the Baro Translation and AR Real-time Translation features.

Last year, Naver also introduced the Papago Edu service, which allows users to capture study materials and view translations along with important keywords. As of this month, Papago Edu is used by 1.1 million users on a monthly basis.
