Hyundai Motor Group announced on Friday that the polymer materials analysis lab and the metal component analysis lab in the Basic Materials Research Center at the Hyundai-Kia Namyang R&D Center received an "excellent safety management laboratories" certification from the Ministry of Science and ICT.

This is the first time that a Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp. research lab has received such certification from the South Korean government.

The "excellent safety management laboratories" certification is granted by the Ministry of Science and ICT to laboratories that have demonstrated outstanding safety management practices. The program aims to enhance the voluntary safety management capabilities of domestic science and technology laboratories.

The two labs that received the certification conduct research and develop basic materials using various metals and chemicals. Hyundai Motor Group stated that the labs are fully equipped with a safety management system, including a dedicated reagent cabinet that safely stores over 700 types of metals and chemicals.

"Safety is of utmost importance, and when safety is ensured, researchers can focus on their research with confidence," said Park Jeong-kuk, the head of Hyundai and Kia's R&D headquarters. "With this certification as momentum, we will continue to strive towards creating a safe workplace with zero safety incidents."
