42Dot, a self-driving technology affiliate of Hyundai Motor Group, said on Tuesday that it received a  certification of ISO/SAE 21434 Cyber Security Management System (CSMS).

ISO/SAE 21434 is a standard defining cybersecurity requirements through all stages of vehicle design, development, testing, and post-production.

This certification is recognized by over 160 national standard organizations that constitute the International Standardization Organization (ISO).

Since July 2021, new cars require CSMS certification for sales in 56 countries under the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) according to the UNR155 vehicle cybersecurity regulation. The regulation will expand to include all vehicle types by July 2024.

With this certification, 42dot has demonstrated a commitment to strengthening cybersecurity in software-defined vehicles (SDVs) according to international norms.

"We will proactively respond to cyber threats and offer the best secure experience in electric vehicle (EV) mobility by implementing international-level security requirements across all processes of SDV transformation," the company stated.

The certification was awarded by the global certification agency UL Solutions. "We were able to confirm 42dot's expert capabilities and significant level of security policy and processes in cybersecurity," said Jody Nelson, Executive for Automotive and Industrial Cyber Security and Functional Safety at UL Solutions.
