South Korea's leading automotive parts maker Hyundai Mobis on Tuesday announced its Mobis Parking System (MPS) 1.0P (Premium), a performance-improved edition of the world's first next-generation parking control system that the company developed in 2021.

Under the system's leading function Memory Parking Assist, a driver parks in route learning mode and the vehicle memorizes this on its own. Afterwards, just the touch of a button enables autonomous parking in the designated space.

The core of the MPS 1.0P is the fusion of image-based sensors through the integration of ultrasonic wave sensors and surround view monitor (SVM) cameras. Based on information from these devices, the cutting-edge technology simultaneously measures a vehicle’s location and creates a map.

"We've raised accuracy by applying this robotics-derived technology,” a company source said. “We've added a driving assistance function that allows a stored distance of up to 100 meters.”

Hyundai Mobis said this technology will attract attention from China and Europe, where designated parking areas and private garages are common, as remote parking in the same location is possible based on a pre-learned driving route.

Another feature of the system is its use of ultrasonic waves and SVM cameras, removing the need for expensive radar and LiDAR sensors.

"Our advantage lies in technical completeness as well as cost," the source said. "We expect not only global orders for the system but also its rapid popularization for use in regular vehicles."
