South Korean battery maker SK On announced on Thursday that a road near its US corporation, SK Battery America's (SKBA) site, has been renamed "SK Boulevard (Blvd.)" from "Steve Reynolds Industrial Parkway".

This change has come in recognition of SKBA's creation of quality jobs and its contributions to the local community in Commerce, Jackson County, the US state of Georgia.

The newly coined SK Blvd has been registered with map applications, 911 services, and postal services as of July 1, with the previous road name continuing to be used concurrently for the next year.

In addition to the road name change, SK On stated that the industrial complex where SKBA is located would transition its name from "Commerce 85 Industrial Parkway" to the provisional "SK Battery Park." Signage indicating this change is anticipated to be installed on the Highway 85 exit leading to SKBA later this year.

SKBA, established locally by parent company SK Innovation before the launch of SK On in November 2018, has been a major player in the region, investing $2.6 billion.

The company operates two battery plants, with the first plant having a capacity of 9.8 GWh and launched in the first quarter of last year. A second plant, boasting a capacity of 11.7 GWh, commenced operations at the end of the same year.

The batteries produced at these plants power the Ford F-150 Lightning and Volkswagen's ID.4 among other vehicles.
