Kakao Healthcare Corp., a digital healthcare platform unit of South Korea's Kakao Corp., announced that it has signed on Tuesday a business agreement with Novo Nordisk for providing smart healthcare services for chronic diseases.

Under this agreement, both companies plan to integrate Kakao Healthcare's digital blood glucose management service, "Project Gamma," with Novo Nordisk's "Mallya Smart Sensor," scheduled to be launched in the second half of the year.

Through this collaboration, both companies aim to offer a digital blood glucose management service that allows real-time monitoring of blood glucose fluctuations and insulin injection records all in one place.

Novo Nordisk's Mallya Smart Sensor is attached to insulin pen injectors and collects dosage and injection time data, which is transmitted through Bluetooth. Patients can check their blood glucose and data in real time through Kakao Healthcare's Project Gamma and automatically store insulin dosage records using the Mallya Smart Sensor.

These data will also be integrated with the hospital information system (HIS) of the hospital the patient visits in the future.

Hwang Hee, CEO of Kakao Healthcare, who attended the signing ceremony, expressed that through the collaboration with Novo Nordisk, both domestic and international diabetes patients are expected to have easier and more convenient health management.

"Kakao Healthcare will continue to collaborate with various global partners and introduce innovative services to improve the quality of patients' lives and prevent complications," he added.
