South Korea's state-run railway company Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail), announced on Monday that it has secured a consulting contract to manage technical operations and maintenance for the Philippines' urban railway.
The deal is for the upcoming Manila Metro Line 7 (MRT-7), which spans 23 kilometers and includes 14 stations.
The agreement is set to last for 45 months and is valued at 17 billion won ($13 million).
Korail has been involved in the MRT-7 project since 2016, providing long-term technical consulting services, including design. Beginning this month, it will assign 17 experts to handle system verification, testing, comprehensive operation, reliability verification, management and information technology for the project's operations and maintenance.
In addition, Korail has obtained a contract to train new MRT-7 train operators and controllers. Starting next month, the company will deploy around 12 instructors over a one-year period to educate train operators and controller personnel.
"We will further expand our presence in overseas markets by leveraging our longstanding experience in stable railway operations," said Ko Jun-yeong, acting president of Korail.
