Carbon neutrality

South Korea's Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp. revealed on Friday their AI-integrated, blockchain-enabled Supplier CO2 Emission Monitoring System (SCEMS) designed to manage carbon emissions data from their business partners.

The system calculates emissions across partners' supply chains, promising transparency and data integrity. It's also expected to ease suppliers' workloads in data collection and management, enhancing accuracy in carbon emissions monitoring.

Leveraging AI and blockchain, Hyundai and Kia aim to proactively meet environmental regulations and foster sustainable supply chains, responding to climate change issues.

Both companies joined the CDP Supply Chain program, run by the international non-profit Carbon Disclosure Project, in February, providing training to strengthen partners' carbon neutrality capabilities.

As part of the program, partners submit and are evaluated on data including energy consumption, emissions, carbon neutrality strategies, and renewable energy transition plans.
