South Korea's automaker KG Mobility Corp. said on Thursday it partnered with the global car aftermarket solutions company Phinia to develop hydrogen engines for eco-friendly vehicles.

KG Mobility teamed up with Phinia and the Korea Automotive Technology Institute on a project for the South Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to develop a zero-CO2, low-cost, small commercial hydrogen-powered Vehicle.

The project aims to develop a 2-liter diesel-based hydrogen engine that meets nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions regulations and achieves a range of more than 500 kilometers.

Starting with the basic design of a multi-purpose engine and vehicle, the two companies will carry out a range-extended electric vehicle (EREV), optimizing engine and vehicle performance.
