Ssangyong Engineering & Construction, a South Korean builder, said on Monday that it has secured a 200-billion-won ($170-million) contract to construct a new campus for ASML Holding NV in Korea.
The new campus for ASML, the world’s largest supplier of lithography systems for the semiconductor industry, will be located in Hwaseong, a city south of Seoul that hosts several chipmakers including Samsung Electronics Co. and SK Hynix Inc.
The campus will consist of two buildings with four underground floors and 11 above-ground floors, covering a total area of 74,418 square meters. It will house offices and research facilities for ASML, which specializes in extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography equipment that enables chipmakers to produce smaller and faster chips.
Ssangyong E&C said it won the contract after undergoing a comprehensive evaluation of its price and technical capabilities. It plans to complete the construction by Jun. 2024.
"The new campus will help expand its local supply chain and customer support. Through the remanufacturing center of the new campus, more parts can be procured in Korea and the partner firm base will be further expanded,” said Lee Woo-kyung, chief executive of ASML Korea.
Yoo Jong-sik, an executive director at Ssangyong E&C, said the contract reflects its expertise and reputation in building high-tech facilities. “We promise to deliver the best-quality construction that can contribute to ASML’s expansion of investment in Korea in the future,” he said.
