Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co. announced on Thursday that it has signed a business agreement with China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), a Chinese state-owned enterprise specializing in offshore construction, for the exclusive domestic use of a wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV).

Based on the latest agreement, Daewoo E&C will have exclusive use of the ship "Gang Hang Ping 5," which is currently under construction by CCCC, for a period of five years.

In addition, CCCC will actively supply offshore equipment needed for Daewoo's future domestic offshore wind power development projects. The two companies have also agreed to collaborate on joint business development.

The Gang Hang Ping 5 is a 30,000-ton vessel with a length of 133 meters, width of 50 meters and height of 11 meters. It can lift, transport and install 15 MW-class offshore wind turbines, blades, towers and more on the sea. It is scheduled to be launched in Dec.

"By establishing a task force team within the Civil Engineering Business Unit for wind power projects, we are strengthening our capabilities in both onshore and offshore wind power generation. We expect this agreement will contribute to enhancing our construction capabilities in the future," said a Daewoo E&C official.
