Electric vehicles

South Korea's LS Cable & System Ltd. broke ground for two factories in Mexico on August 2: one for bus ducts, or a large-scale power distribution system and the other for an electric vehicle (EV) battery components.

They will have a total floor area of 16,800 square meters on a site of 126,000 square meters within an industrial complex in the central Mexican state of Querétaro. They will begin mass production in the second half of next year, LS Cable said on Sunday.

The facilities will serve as LS Cable's export hub for North America, leveraging Mexico's low labor costs and the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

Bus ducts to be produced at the factory in Mexico will be supplied to EV, battery and semiconductor factories, as well as to artificial intelligence (AI) data centers.

It will be LS Cable & System's fourth bus duct production base, following the Gumi factory in South Korea; the Wuxi factory in China; and LS Eco Energy’s plant in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

LS Cable will also produce battery components such as EV wiring harnesses at the battery components factory under construction in the industrial complex in Querétaro.

It will serve as LS Cable's key production hub for battery components, along with its plant in Poland.
