Hanwha Q Cells Co., a solar panel manufacturing arm of South Korea's Hanwha Solutions Corp., said on Thursday that it has secured a large-scale solar power project in Weld County, Colorado, the US.

The project involves constructing a solar power plant spanning 5.6 square kilometers, equivalent to the size of 790 football fields, and supplying 540,000 solar modules.

Hanwha Q Cells announced on Thursday that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for the solar power plant with the local power purchaser, Platte River Power Authority (PRPA), on Wednesday.

Hanwha Q Cells is responsible for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), meaning it will oversee the development and construction.

The company plans to complete the power plant and commence commercial operation by 2025.

Under the power purchase agreement (PPA) with PRPA, Hanwha Q Cells will supply renewable energy electrical power.

Hanwha Q Cells is actively targeting the U.S. market by consecutively securing large renewable energy project developments and EPC contracts.

Last May, it completed a project consisting of 50 megawatts (MW) of solar modules and a 200 megawatt-hour (MWh) energy storage system (ESS). This power plant supplies renewable energy to the American big tech company Meta.
