South Korea’s largest auto parts maker Hyundai Mobis Co. said on Wednesday it is unveiling two future mobility concept cars at the upcoming CES trade show both onsite and via the metaverse.

At the CES 2022 to be held Jan. 5-8 in Las Vegas, the auto parts unit of Hyundai Motor Group, will showcase the M.Vision POP, an electric vehicle-based micro-mobility concept, and the M.Vision 2GO, an eco-friendly city delivery mobility vehicle.

Visitors to the company’s CES booth can also enjoy an immersive experience through its metaverse space dubbed M.Vision Town by creating a character with their own face captured at the entrance of the Hyundai Mobis booth.

At its exhibition booth, the company will also showcase its in-vehicle infotainment systems (IVIs) and other state-of-the-art auto components.

The company said the two concept cars incorporate its future mobility-related technology and feature new functions it developed earlier, such as the e-Corner and the communicative LED lighting grille.

In October, Hyundai Mobis said it developed technology to allow wheels to turn by 90 degrees, aiding in sharper vehicle cornering and easier parking.

Its e-Corner module allows a vehicle to move from side to side like a crab, making parallel parking in a narrow space easier. A vehicle with that module can also make a 360-degree rotation where it stands.

The company also said in June it developed a new grille technology that allows drivers to use the front grille of their cars as a LED lighting device as well as a means of communication with other automobiles and pedestrians.

Hyundai Mobis, which supplies parts to affiliates Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp. as well as other global carmakers, has been strengthening its technological capabilities in electrification, autonomous vehicle and connected car segments to serve the diversified needs of automakers, while also looking into the urban air mobility (UAM) and robotics sectors.
