South Korean auto powertrain and seat maker Hyundai Transys on Tuesday said it unveiled its new urban air mobility (UAM) cabin concept Hyundai Transys Air Mobility-Flip (HTAM-Flip) at this year’s Crystal Cabin Awards, the world's lone international honors for innovative aircraft cabin products and concepts.
Winners are selected after a rigorous review by experts including those from aircraft manufacturers, engineering and technology, the company said.
HTAM-Flip is a UAM cabin concept with a flipover function that allows switching between front and rear views. This is the first time a domestic auto parts company participated in the awards and made the shortlist in the cabin concept category.
Hyundai Transys was also the only non-aircraft manufacturing automotive parts company to make the list.
Through this award, Hyundai Transys showed its concept's new functions of the flipover seat; slim seat design suggesting a light and tensile material with an exposed frame; privacy screen using a material that transmits light; and maximized luggage space through optimization of the lower storage area with a bench-type cushion design.
Configuration of an adjustable layout with a maximum of four passengers allows an open four-seat design for group accommodation. A privacy screen can also serve as a partition for conversion into an independent space.
“We reflected a philosophy of environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) by proposing eco-friendly lightweight materials such as honeycomb interior materials and recycled injection plastics,” a company source said.
In July last year at the Farnborough International Air Show of the UK, Hyundai Transys also released a video of its Advanced Air Mobility Interior produced in collaboration with Supernal, its Washington-based electric aerial vehicle affiliate, through which it introduced the customization of color, material and finishing on UAM aircraft.
