South Korean food and beverage (F&B) company Samsung Welstory has teamed up with Kangbuk Samsung Hospital to develop business-to-business (B2B) healthcare programs.

This move stems from the emergence of expanded staff healthcare as a major employee perk at companies and growth of the market for customized health management solutions for corporate clients.

At the company's headquarters in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, just south of Seoul, Samsung Welstory President and CEO Jeong Hai-lin and the hospital's president Shin Hyun-chul on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding on joint development of B2B healthcare programs.

Samsung Welstory will provide customized nutritional coaching based on its capacity in the F&B sector, know-how in healthy food operations, and meal and nutritional data accumulated over the years.

Demand for programs to manage employee health has recently grown as more companies adopt employee assistance programs to solve problems and raise worker satisfaction and productivity. The company will improve service quality through a healthcare program integrating F&B solutions.

Based on the results of health checkups at work, the company and the hospital will devise healthcare programs with doctors, nurses, nutritionists and exercise specialists for employees, including pre- and post-care checkups for those taking physicals at the workplace.

Workers whose checkups find high blood sugar levels will get a low-sugar diet at their company cafeteria.

“Few of the many types of B2B healthcare services being released combine F&B solutions," a company source said. "We expect to provide effective services to corporate clients who expect substantial improvements in employee health.”
