A US road in Taylor, Taxas, where global chip giant Samsung Electronics Co. is building a $17 billion fabrication plant on a scale of about 5 million square meters, was named "Samsung Highway."

Samsung Electronics Chief Executive Kyung Kye-hyun recently informed on his social media that he visited the construction site.

"The construction in Taylor is going smoothly. The fab will be completed this year and start producing the top-end products next year," said Kyung.

He also posted a photo of Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell giving him a Samsung Highway road sign.

In December, the Williamson County Court renamed the road, formerly known as Future County Road, as "Samsung Highway."

In Nov. 2021, Samsung announced the $17 billion investment project under which it will produce high-tech system chips for use in such fields as 5G, high-performance computing, and artificial intelligence from the second half of 2024.
