South Korea's SK Telecom Co. announced on Monday that it partnered with three IT companies in Southeast Asia to accelerate its metaverse market strategy in the region.

The company signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with CelcomDigi Berhad of Malaysia, Agate of Indonesia, and Cosmic Technologies of the Philippines for publishing partnership of its metaverse platform, ifland.

CelcomDigi is the leading telecommunications company in Malaysia, Agate is a game developer and publisher in Indonesia. Cosmic Technologies is an Internet of Things (IoT) platform provider and devices supplying company in the Philippines.

SK Telecom expects that the MOU with these companies will accelerate the expansion of ifland's user base in Southeast Asia.

Under the new partnerships, SK Telecom will handle the service planning, content creation, and operational management. The partner companies will take charge of developing regional-specific content, steering marketing initiatives, and offering first-tier customer support.

To cater to the global metaverse market, SK Telecom is enhancing ifland with new features including support for languages such as Indonesian, Malay, Hindi, and Spanish, and developing curation features to recommend content tailored to each region's customer characteristics.

SKT initiated ifland’s global expansion in November 2022, launching in 49 countries.
