South Korea’s top tire manufacturer Hankook Tire & Technology has again widened its client pool of electric vehicles (EVs).

The company said on July 22 that Volkswagen’s all-electric sport utility vehicle (SUV), ID.4, will be equipped with its Ventus S1 evo3 EV that has been specifically developed for EVs. Hankook will supply 18- to 21-inch sizes for the electric SUV.

“Volkswagen’s various EV prototypes were already running on our tires. We will continue to contribute to expanding alternative drive systems and sustainable mobility,” said Lee Sang-hoon, the president of Hankook Tire Europe.

Hankook also supplies Ventus S1 evo3 EV for Porsche’s first EV model Taycan as well as to Audi’s first all-electric SUV e-tron.

Hankook said that its Ventus S1 evo3 EV tires have reduced rolling resistance, lower weight and higher load-bearing capacity than typical tire models.

The tire model’s 19-, 20- and 21-inch sizes are applied with the Hankook SEALGUARD® sealing technology, which uses sealants to automatically seal punctures up to 5 millimeters in diameter within the tire’s tread area.

“There are only a few tire makers in the world that can develop and manufacture their own sealant materials,” said Hankook Tire.

The company has also been selected as the exclusive tire supplier and technical partner for the world’s first fully-electric racing championship, The Formula E Championship, from its 2022-23 season onwards.

Hankook added that it is the only Asian company to be listed in the renowned Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) for the fifth time in succession.
