Hyundai Glovis Co., a logistics unit of Hyundai Motor Group, agreed to set up a liquid hydrogen supply chain with Air Products, the world’s largest hydrogen producer.
Hyundai Glovis said on Oct. 19 that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the US company on establishing a supply chain for liquid and clean hydrogen.
Air Products provides comprehensive solutions on hydrogen including production, liquefaction, storage, transportation and charging.
Hyundai Glovis was set to secure a stable supplier for a liquid hydrogen chain in South Korea, while Air Products was slated to consider investment and operation of a liquefaction plant. They will work for securing blue-green hydrogen supply chains in South Korea and other countries, as well as marine transportation.
The South Korean logistics company aims to introduce clean hydrogen and green ammonia based on its shipping capabilities. It also plans to build a green ammonia-based hydrogen supply chain with Air Products' ammonia decomposition technology. The two companies plan to jointly discover global business models, combining Hyundai Glovis’ networks in the world and Air Products’ technologies.
“Synergy is expected as Hyundai Glovis, which has strength in global land and sea gas transportation, and Air Products, which has know-how in gas production and sales technologies, will cooperate,” said Hyundai Glovis CEO Kim Jung-hoon. “We will focus our capabilities on building a global hydrogen supply chain.”
