Samsung Engineering Co., the construction unit of South Korea’s top conglomerate Samsung Group, said on Thursday it has won three Project of the Year awards from the MEED, a leading economic weekly in the Middle East.

With the latest awards, Samsung Engineering will be receiving the prestigious MEED awards for the 11th straight year.

The company said it won this year’s awards for its SABIC United EO/EG Ⅲ project in Saudi Arabia and the KNPC CF (Clean Fuels) project in Kuwait.

The Saudi project, being conducted by Samsung Engineering alone, is building a mono-ethylene glycol (MEG) plant with an annual production capacity of 700,000 tons.

The Kuwaiti project, which Samsung won in partnership with the UK’s Petrofac Ltd. and US engineering firm McDermott International Ltd., is to expand the production capacity of Mina Al-Ahmadi and Mina Abdullah oil refineries to 800,000 barrels and reduce sulfur content to produce high-quality refined petroleum products.

The MEED, formerly known as the Middle East Economic Digest, selects the best construction and engineering projects in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) every year.
