Korean telecom giant LG Uplus Corp. on Tuesday said it will develop a smart factory solution for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) jointly with the production automation company Korea Fanuc.

Korea Fanuc manufactures computer numerical controls (CNCs) and servo motors for use as machine tool controllers as well as the machine tools and industrial robots using such devices. The company commands the top global market share in its sector, and many domestic makers of machine tools apply its CNCs.

LG UPlus will devise a smart factory solution for SMEs that use machine tools by linking its control platform with Korea Fanuc's machine tool controller. The linkage will enable analysis by LG UPlus' smart factory platform of a machine tool's operating signals to remotely monitor a facility's condition and detect any problem.

LG Uplus and Korea Fanuc, with extensive on-site experience and facility know-how, will jointly develop technologies for artificial intelligence-based monitoring of machine tool facilities and detection of problems to provide services to the machine tool sector.

In addition, LG UPlus offers a cloud-based smart factory solution on a subscription basis that reduces initial investment costs and boosts output efficiency and space utility for SMEs clients.
