Doosan Enerbility Co. plans to introduce an ammonia co-fired power plant in Vietnam jointly with South Korean and Vietnamese research institutes.

South Korea’s leading power plant builder announced on Friday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Institute of Energy (IE), a scientific and technological research agency of Vietnam, and the Korea Electronics Technology Research Institute (KETI) in Hanoi, Vietnam, for cooperation in the Southeast Asian nation's clean energy industry.

This follows the MOU on Dec. 5 under which the Korean and Vietnamese governments vowed to cooperate in the electric power industry, involving offshore wind power and ammonia co-firing.

With this agreement, the three parties will set up a consultative body to introduce ammonia-mixed fuel combustion technology to thermal power plants in Vietnam and modernize the country's power plants.

IE will conduct a feasibility study for the application of ammonia-mixed combustion, and KETI will promote the modernization of Vietnamese power plants, while Doosan will be responsible for the development of ammonia co-fired power generation technology.

"Doosan Enerbility has successfully supplied equipment to many Vietnamese power plants since it established a large-scale local production plant Doosan Vina in 2009, contributing to the development of Vietnam's machinery industry and job creation," said Park Hong-Wook, Power Service BG Head of Doosan Enerbility.
