Netmarble Corp. said on Monday that it has joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) to strengthen its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) management and social responsibility activities.

The Global Compact is the world's largest voluntary corporate citizenship initiative launched in New York in 2000 to promote corporate social responsibility.

Currently, more than 20,000 corporate members and other stakeholders from 162 countries across the world are participating.

Members that joined the initiative must comply with the 10 principles in the four areas of human rights, labor, the environment, and anti-corruption, which are the core values of the Global Compact, and submit and disclose an implementation report every year to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Netmarble is the first Korean game company to join the Global Compact. Taking this as momentum, the company plans to internalize the 10 principles throughout management and share its efforts with various stakeholders, including users, shareholders, and local communities, incorporating sustainable management practices. In particular, its goal is to achieve the level of global ESG leading companies in the human rights area.

"Netmarble's membership in the UN Global Compact is a promise to move toward a future society of growth and coexistence. We will fulfill our duties as a responsible company by internalizing the global ESG standards," said Kwon Young-sik, chairman of the Netmarble ESG Committee.
