SsangYong Motor Co. announced on Thursday that it has received certification for its European cyber security management system (CSMS).

This certification requires the implementation of a systematic management system to protect vehicles and electric/electronic components from cyber threats throughout their life cycles.

In July 2020, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) enacted laws mandating CSMS certification for vehicles sold in Europe. Vehicle type approval (VTA) tests, which confirm compliance with the CSMS scheme, were also conducted.

"Establishing cyber security management systems like CSMS are essential in the global market, particularly in Europe," said a Ssangyong Motor official. "We will expedite our entry into the European market by creating our own systematic security management system."
