South Korea's leading broadband Internet access provider SK Broadband is moving into the public desktop-as-a-service (DaaS) market.

SK Broadband announced Thursday that its Cloud Desktop, a DaaS offering jointly developed with Naver Cloud, has obtained Cloud Security Assurance Program (CSAP) certification from the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA).

CSAP is an evaluation and certification system implemented by the government to supply private cloud services whose stability has been verified by public institutions.

Acquisition of CSAP is a prerequisite for private contractors who want to supply cloud services to the government or public organizations.

SK Broadband's cloud PC solution Cloud X, which is the basis of cloud desktop, has a National Intelligence Service security competence certificate that meets all the recently revised security requirements for national agencies and public organizations.

Security functions from the perspective of cloud services, such as organization/operating system, access control and breach response/prevention process, which are additionally required in the DaaS certification, have also been strengthened.

The five companies including SK Broadband, Naver Cloud, AhnLab Inc., TmaxOS, and Hancom Inc. signed a strategic business agreement last year for cooperation in domestic DaaS projects.

In terms of securing domestic market leadership, Cloud Desktop supports the optimal virtual PC environment with Gooroom OS in connection with the government's On-Book project and open OS revitalization policy.

"By combining SK Broadband Cloud X with Naver Cloud infrastructure, we have provided DaaS services to a number of customers, including the Ministry of Public Administration and Security pilot project, KISA, Industrial Bank of Korea and EBS. This certification will allow us to introduce DaaS in government agencies and state-run enterprises and successfully implement government policies," said Lee Bang-yeol, head of SK Broadband Connect Infrastructure CO.
