SK Ecoplant Co., a subsidiary of South Korea's SK Group that focuses on recycling, construction and renewable energy, announced on Tuesday a business agreement with CJ Logistics to create a virtuous-cycle ecosystem for waste resources.

As part of this partnership, CJ Logistics will leverage the WAYBLE solution, an integrated waste management service developed by SK Ecoplant.

The objective is to drive digital transformation across all stages of waste treatment, from discharge and collection to transportation and final disposal, in order to increase the recycling rate by reducing unnecessary discharge and collection.

Mixed waste is often discharged in distribution centers, making it difficult to accurately identify and process the type, volume, weight and discharge patterns of the waste. Moreover, it is challenging to manage the entire waste treatment process in an integrated manner due to the involvement of different entities at each stage, including discharge, collection, transportation and disposal.

The two companies are collaborating to tackle these issues and enhance the resource circulation process. They are also jointly promoting the "Closed Loop" initiative, which involves recycling discarded waste boxes as packaging materials once again.

This program is a system and service that transports discarded resources, such as waste boxes, from business sites to recycling facilities, where they are repurposed into packaging materials that are then supplied back to the sites where they were initially discharged.
