Taekwang Industrial Co., a textile and petrochemical subsidiary of Taekwang Group, announced on Sunday that it has achieved ISO 45001 certification for occupational health and safety at its major plants in the petrochemical and advanced materials divisions.

The South Korean company has obtained ISO 45001 certification for all five of its factories, which include Ulsan Petroleum Plants 1, 2 and 3, Ulsan Chemical Fiber Plant and Busan Cotton Spinning Plant.

ISO 45001 is an international standard for occupational health and safety management systems certified by the British Standards Institution (BSI). It provides practical solutions for worker safety, and the certification is an important step in strengthening Taekwang Industrial's ESG management strategy, with a focus on creating a safe work environment.

The company has been taking measures to improve process safety management (PSM) and respond to the Severe Accident Punishment Act, including checking aging and dangerous facilities, and establishing a safety and health team at the headquarters level, in addition to the existing safety environment team for individual plants.

Last year, the company established system maintenance and detailed improvement plans to comply with safety management-related regulations. To strengthen on-site safety management during regular maintenance of petrochemical plants, a "safety support group" scheme was introduced.

According to an official from Taekwang Industrial, the company has established a systematic serious accident prevention system in the workplace through ISO 45001 certification. It plans to continue upgrading the system this year by fostering internal experts and strengthening risk assessment for risk factors to create an even safer workplace.
