SK Networks Co., the general trading and rental arm of South Korea’s third-largest conglomerate SK Group, said on Monday that it has changed the name of its electric vehicle charger subsidiary SS Charger to SK Electlink.

The new name reflects the company’s ambition to connect customers, electric vehicles and charging stations, as well as social values such as environmental protection, SK Networks said.

SS Charger was previously a business unit of STraffic Co., a transportation solution provider, and spun off before SK Networks acquired it late last year. SS Charger was the largest private operator of fast chargers for electric vehicles in Korea, with about 1,800 locations nationwide.

SK Electlink plans to expand its network of chargers by building more stations at highway rest areas and other locations. It also aims to introduce new technologies and services to improve customer satisfaction and convenience.

The company will showcase its new name and products at EV Trend Korea 2023, an electric vehicle exhibition that will be held at COEX in Seoul from Mar. 15 to 17. It will unveil a "capacity variable multi-purpose charger" that can adjust its output according to the type of vehicle and a "charging interference prevention system" that can prevent unauthorized use of the chargers.
