Carbon neutrality

Hyundai Motor Co. announced on Sunday that it will host a "Habitat One" exhibition at Hyundai Motor Studio Seoul in Gangnam, Seoul, showcasing a future city vision in a carbon-neutral era.

This exhibition follows a similar event held in July last year at Hyundai Motor Studio Busan, which drew in 100,000 visitors. Hyundai Motor collaborated with ecoLogicStudio, a British design group specializing in innovative architecture, to plan the exhibition.

The main attraction of the exhibition is the Tree.ONE, an artificial tree that stores carbon in its trunk and supplies oxygen to the atmosphere, along with a green algae cultivation device. The green algae can capture carbon dioxide and purify indoor air equivalent to approximately 12 full-grown trees.

A video work called "Habitat One: The architecture of the carbon-neutral city," which shows a future where the natural virtuous cycle structure is maximized, is displayed on the large media façade inside and outside the first and second floors of Hyundai Motor Studio Seoul.

According to an official from Hyundai Motor, "We hope that this exhibition will serve as an opportunity to consider what we can do for a sustainable future and future generations, realized through the combination of creativity and technology."

Hyundai Motor had previously declared "carbon neutrality by 2045," aiming to achieve net-zero carbon emissions in all stages from vehicle production to operation and disposal. The company has also announced plans to reduce carbon emissions from vehicle operations, supply chain and workplaces to 75% of the 2019 level by 2040.
