South Korean silicon wafer maker SK Siltron Co. announced on Monday that it has joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) to strengthen its environment, social and governance (ESG) management and corporate social responsibility practices. The UNGC is an international agreement of the United Nations with the participation of more than 20,000 companies from 162 countries.

The UNGC calls for corporate social responsibility practices by announcing ten principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption. SK Siltron plans to transparently disclose its activities for the achievement of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) by adhering to these ten principles through annual compliance reports.

The company explained that it joined the UNGC to carry out more responsible management activities for the sustainable future of all humanity as a global corporate citizen.

"SK Siltron's joining the UNGC, which is building an eco-friendly wafer manufacturing environment, is very encouraging," said Yu Yeon-cheol, Secretary General of the UNGC Korea Association, adding "We expect it to grow further as a company that strengthens ESG competitiveness, enhances environmental responsibility and fulfills social responsibility."
