South Korean food company Ottogi Co. has announced on Friday the opening of the food safety science research institute at its Ottogi Research Center in Anyang City, Gyeonggi Province.

The new center will expand Ottogi's research and verification of food safety in various areas, including reducing harmful substances, improving food analysis methods, and developing systems for analyzing and treating environmental pollutants.

The food safety science research institute, which was established in 1983 as an analysis department at the Ottogi Food Research Institute and was promoted to the Food Safety Center in 2005, is responsible for ensuring the safety of Ottogi's products as part of the quality assurance division.

"We aim to make a significant stride in food safety through the food safety science research institute and will pioneer new research areas for food safety while making efforts to enhance domestic food safety," said an Ottogi official.
