South Korea's KT Corp. on Friday said it will jointly enter the health care sector with electronics health records company ezCaretech.

Both companies the day before signed a memorandum of understanding on raising global operations by searching for and developing a service model for digital transformation (DX) in health care; jointly developing new services in DX health care convergence; launching smart hospitals through a joint brand; and providing mutual support in devising health care DX consulting and services.

KT will provide infrastructure and solutions in information and communications technology (ICT). Solutions like the company's A'Cen Cloud and two-way text service have been linked with ezCaretech's hospital information system (HIS).

In cooperation with ezCaretech and KT Cloud, KT is also conducting a next-generation HIS project that combines internet data centers and cloud technology.

In addition, both companies will develop a service-type disaster recovery center product that ensures continuity and stability of hospital operations even in the event of a disaster or calamity.

KT will also cooperate with specialized companies in other fields to find customized hospital solutions and products, as well as offer things like hospital logistics robots and remote medical services.

"We will continue promoting the expansion of the digital transformation of smart hospitals by converging the HIS of the leading medical ICT company exCaretech with KT's ICT,"  KT Vice President Shin Soo-jung, head of the company's Enterprise Group, said.
