South Korea's petroleum and refinery company HD Hyundai Oilbank Co. has jointly developed a container using recycled plastic with domestic plastic container maker Shinsung Industry.

HD Hyundai Oilbank on Monday announced the rollout of its eco-friendly plastic container, which is made by recycling battery separators discarded during the manufacturing process, for its lubricant brand XTeer. Stronger than containers made of conventional high-density polyethylene, the item is highly pure, colorless, odorless and non-toxic and can come in fluorescent colors.

HD Hyundai Oilbank is streamlining its environmental, social and governance (ESG) management through efforts like stimulation of the plastic circular economy.

On June 1, it published its first integrated ESG report in company history on efforts to respond to climate change like boosting its organization for managing greenhouse gases and planning to cut carbon levels. It also presented strategies for a sustainable future through sectors like bio, resource recycling, and green hydrogen and chemical materials.

"We'll use eco-friendly containers not only at home but also on lubricant export items initially bound for Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia," a company source said.
