South Korea’s No. 2 automotive parts supplier Hyundai Wia Corp. on Tuesday completed construction of a thermal management test center at the company’s research center in the southern Seoul suburb of Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province.

The newly finished facility will develop integrated thermal management systems (ITMS).

Construction began in November last year on a site with a combined floor area of 6,069 square meters, and operations were recently launched at the center after building was finished.

The center conducts over 50 types of unit performance development and durability tests on thermal management system modules, systems and vehicles including those for intermittent variable speed and thermal shock.

Hyundai Wia through the center can research thermal management systems for future mobility. A separate heat management system is essential for future mobility modes such as EVs, which lack a separate heat source like an engine.

Hyundai Wia is also building within the center a vehicle environment anechoic chamber to test performance using external environments with temperatures ranging from minus 30 degrees Celsius to plus 65.

"Starting with the completion of the thermal management test center, we will focus on ITMS development," a company source said. "The goal is mass output of ITMS from 2025 by upgrading our coolant hub modules, whose production began in May."
