South Korea's LIG Nex1 Co. announced on Thursday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding for the future space, defense cloud transition with domestic cloud company Megazone Cloud and Amazon Web Service (AWS) Korea.

Through the latest agreement, the three companies will collaborate on research projects in the field of space and defense cloud. They will also engage in technology exchange and mutual cooperation in global business endeavors.

LIG Nex1, through this partnership, is preparing to address the expanding areas of space, cybersecurity and unmanned systems. Megazone Cloud will explore areas where it can apply big data analysis, artificial intelligence (AI) and security capabilities to the domestic defense industry. AWS plans to provide LIG Nex1 with cloud-based customized solutions and support digital transformation.

"LIG Nex1 has seized the opportunity to establish essential cloud IT infrastructure for its journey toward becoming a global defense company," CEO of LIG Nex1 Kim Ji-Chan said. "This is a crucial requirement for the realization of the South Korean government's goal of becoming one of the world's four strongest defense exporters."
