Carbon neutrality

South Korean shipping and logistics company Hyundai Glovis Co. on Thursday pledged to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045.

Despite producing a high volume of CO2 due to the nature of its operations, the company said it will reach this goal five years earlier than the nation's carbon neutrality target year of 2050 by improving its internal structure.

To go green in shipping, Hyundai Glovis is cutting emissions by improving energy efficiency. Next year, it will utilize eco-friendly vessels such as car carriers propelled by liquefied natural gas dual-fuel propulsion engines.

By 2035, the company plans to complete its transition to carbon-free ships.

In logistics, Hyundai Glovis will expand its use of eco-friendly vehicles from those for cargo. Electric- and hydrogen-powered trucks will come in 2026 and all domestic business vehicles will go green from 2030.

The company will also promote the recycling of electric vehicle batteries and have all of its business sites at home and abroad use 100% renewable energy by 2040.
