South Korean electronic parts maker LG Innotek announced on Sunday that it developed a cutting-edge wireless battery management system (BMS), a crucial component for electric vehicles (EVs).

The company will unveil the cable-free BMS tech at CES 2024, the world’s biggest consumer technology trade show in January next year.

As a crucial component for EVs, the BMS monitors and controls battery performance, ensuring safety and longevity.

LG Innotek's innovation eliminates the need for cable connections, reducing the weight by 30-90 kg and freeing up an additional 10-15% space in battery packs.

This innovation leads to lighter, faster-charging EVs and positions the technology as a game-changer for both electric and autonomous vehicles.

LG Innotek's wireless BMS boasts the highest voltage among commercially available options, at 800V, resulting in shorter charging times for EVs.

This achievement builds on the company's 40-year expertise in wireless communication technology, which began with the early development of RF modulators.

Uniquely, LG Innotek's RF communication module is compatible with all wireless BMS chips, making it adaptable to any EV. This versatility broadens their market reach and ensures widespread adoption.

With mass production set to start in 2024, LG Innotek is poised to capitalize on the burgeoning wireless BMS market, which is projected to skyrocket from 9 billion won ($6.9 million) in 2022 to 1.3 trillion won ($1 billion) in 2028.
