South Korea’s Ssangyong Engineering & Construction Co. (Ssangyong E&C) said on Tuesday it has won a $57 million deal to build a 12-megawatt solar power plant and a 10-megawatt-hour energy storage system at the Caracol Industrial Park in Haiti.

Under the contract, Ssangyong said it will operate the facilities for five years upon completion.

The builder said it has secured the contract with the help of its largest shareholder Global Sae-A Group, which owns an apparel maker Sae-A Trading.

Global Sae-A runs a plant at the Caracol Industrial Park.

Ssangyong said the construction of solar cell facilities in Haiti will use the engineering technology it obtained from Global Sae-A’s affiliate, SaeA STX EnTech, which built similar facilities in Nicaragua.
