South Korea’s HD Hyundai Marine Solution announced on Monday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the domestic security firm AHNlab Inc. and Germany-based network monitoring company Paessler to enter the ship cyber security industry.

Last year, the company launched its cyber security solution brand Hi-Secure. HD Hyundai Marine Solution plans to feature this solution to ships built by global shipbuilders including HD Korea Shipbuilding & offshore engineering.

This move comes in response to a recent mandate by the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS). From July this year, all new shipbuilding contracts must prioritize cyber resilience.

This requires ensuring ships can swiftly recover from IT disruptions, a crucial safeguard in the face of growing digital complexity and cyber threats, particularly with the rise of autonomous sailing technology.
