South Korea's LG Chem Ltd. announced on Wednesday that it will unveil an eco-friendly plastic material derived from carbon dioxide at Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna in Bologna, Italy, on Mar. 21.

Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna, renowned as the largest exhibition in the beauty industry, hosts over 3,000 companies specializing in materials, packaging, original development manufacturing(ODM), and brands, showcasing the latest advancements and trends.

LG Chem will present its cosmetic containers made from polyethylene carbonate (PEC) at the Ecozone booth of its partner Cosmax, a leading South Korean cosmetics manufacturer.

PEC is a pioneering eco-friendly plastic formulated from carbon dioxide captured from industrial emissions and ethylene oxide.

LG Chem has developed unique catalysts and process technologies essential for converting carbon dioxide into usable plastic, positioning the company at the forefront of carbon dioxide-based plastic production in terms of productivity.

Primarily used for cosmetic containers and food packaging materials, PEC can be adapted for various uses, from soft films to hard cases, by mixing it with other plastic products.

There has been a growing movement in the cosmetics industry towards eco-friendly containers.

With the introduction of eco-friendly regulations, such as the European Union's (EU) carbon border tax, many global cosmetic companies have announced plans to attach a carbon footprint to their products by 2030 and increase the use of recycled plastics.
