South Korean semiconductor design house Asicland Co. said on Thursday it signed a $19 million contract with the domestic fabless company FADU.

Under the agreement, the two companies will jointly design and develop enterprise Solid State Drive (eSSD) controllers, key components used in large-scale data centers. Demand for eSSDs has been increasing due to rising investments in AI servers.

Controllers are devices responsible for reading and writing data in semiconductors.

Asicland will oversee the overall design and manufacturing process, including IP contracts, front-end and back-end design, and wafer processing.

The contract period extends until July 11, 2027.
