Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp. announced on Friday that they won a total of 12 awards, including three Gold Awards, at the 2024 International Design Excellence Awards(IDEA), organized by the Industrial Designers Society of America.

The IDEA Design Awards, which began in 1980, are considered North America's top design competition and are recognized as one of the world's top three design awards, along with Germany's iF Design Award and the Red Dot Design Award.

Each year, the competition selects the best designs across various categories through comprehensive evaluations based on innovation, user benefits and social responsibility.

Hyundai's electric vehicle IONIQ 5 N and Kia's large electric SUV EV9 both won the top Gold Award at this year's IDEA Design Awards.

Notably, the EV9 also received the Gold Award at the iF Design Awards and the Best of the Best Award at the Red Dot Design Awards, making it the recipient of top honors in all three of the world's major design competitions.

The EV9 was praised for its futuristic yet luxurious design, representing Kia's direction in electric SUVs. The IONIQ 5 N was recognized for its high-performance, distinctive design that emphasized uniqueness.

Hyundai's Pony Heritage campaign also won a Gold Award in the branding category, highlighting the brand's excellence.

Additionally, the Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe XRT Concept received a Bronze Award and an honorable mention in the automotive and transportation category, respectively. Genesis' GV80 Coupe was also awarded for its dynamic elegance in design.

Hyundai and Kia further received recognition in categories such as packaging, home EV chargers, heritage magazines and outdoor products.
