South Korea's Kumho Petrochemical Co. announced on Thursday that its phenolic foam board (PF board) insulation material under the construction material brand "Hugreen" has obtained the highest grade in the Healthy Building Material (HB) mark and Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification.

The HB mark is a leading eco-friendly construction material certification scheme in South Korea.

It is awarded by the Korea Air Cleaning Association after quality certification tests on the emission intensity of formaldehyde and total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs) for construction materials produced domestically and internationally. The certification is divided into grades such as good, excellent and the highest based on the test results.

Hugreen's PF board has also received EPD certification from the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute. EPD quantitatively indicates the environmental impact of the entire process, from production to use and disposal, providing criteria for determining the eco-friendliness of a product.

"Through various eco-friendly technology developments during the production of PF boards since last September, we have achieved the outstanding result of the highest grade in the HB mark," said Heo Kwun-Wook, Head of the Building Materials Business Unit at Kumho Petrochemical.

"In the future, through PF boards that ensure both high functionality and environmental reliability, we will become a leading eco-friendly insulation material company," he added.
