Lolab Co. Ltd., KT's digital logistics subsidiary, released its Brokarry 2.0 freight brokerage and transportation service, which incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) technology, on Monday. The platform connects shippers and carriers in real time, and AI-based features have been added.

Shippers can check not only accurate delivery information but also estimated time of arrival. The strength of KT's AI technology lies in its transportation control service. Brokarry 2.0 incorporates AI-trained historical data on real-time location information and traffic information collected through KT's own geographic information system (GIS) and navigation technology. This means that the cargo management tasks that were previously done manually can now be fully automated.

For carriers, the service provides an "AI-optimized cargo recommendation service" based on preferred regions and movement path data. They can secure customized assignments with cargo truck-specific navigation based on vehicle type and height information. The company explained that it minimizes the number of times carriers travel with empty trucks because they cannot find suitable assignments. In the future, AI voice guidance services will also be added.

"In just one year since its launch last year, Brokarry signed up 10,000 carriers and secured more than 160 large shippers," said a KT official, adding, "We have implemented a stable and efficient service by adding AI functions." Brokarry-related revenue recorded 75 billion won ($56.2 million) last year, and the company expects to increase it by more than double this year.

"Technology competition in the freight brokerage and transportation market is becoming fierce," said Song Jae-ho, head of KT's AI/DX convergence business, adding, "We will play a role in leading market changes by collaborating with various domestic and foreign partners."
