South Korea's KT Corp. plans to apply smart city technologies such as quantum communication and cybersecurity to Nusantra, the new administrative capital of Indonesia.

KT said on Wednesday that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Telkom Indonesia, the nation's state-owned telecom entity on Oct. 30, underscoring a joint commitment to developing and popularizing a smart city in Indonesia's emergent capital.

In a subsequent move, the companies hosted the KT Consulting Result Report Meeting for the Concretization of Smart City Cooperation Items.

Amid challenges such as swelling population and escalating sea levels, Indonesia is ardently progressing with initiatives to transfer its capital from Jakarta to Nusantara in Borneo island.

Augmenting this move, the Indonesian government sought expertise from its South Korean counterpart, culminating in a fortified alliance with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport's One Team Korea.

With the MOU as its cornerstone, KT aspires to intensify its collaboration in crafting the smart city blueprint for Indonesia's nascent capital.

This involves fusing KT's avant-garde ICT solutions with Telkom's robust wireless, wired communication capabilities, and extensive network framework.

The strategic alignment isn't limited to smart city endeavors.

Both corporations are set to explore synergies in the data center sector within the new capital.

This collaborative intent is expected to give rise to a Joint Task Force (TF), dedicated to spearheading expansion ventures across domains like transportation, energy, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
