South Korea's SK Broadband said on Thursday that it will establish a nationwide network using Internet Protocol-Multi Protocol Label Switching (IP-MPLS) to deliver next-generation dedicated line services for enterprise customers.

IP-MPLS is a transmission technology designed to efficiently manage rising network traffic from diverse applications, provide fast, secure communications, and the flexibility to integrate multiple network protocols.

After completing performance tests in July, SK Broadband decided to deploy the IP-MPLS system across its network.

The technology will allow the company to offer up to 400 gigabytes of bandwidth, scaling services to meet the needs of enterprise clients.

The system is especially suited for large businesses requiring high-capacity connections between data centers, driven by the growing demand for cloud services.

Small and medium-sized enterprises, which may have hesitated due to investment costs, will also be able to benefit from this service, the company said.

SK Broadband aims to launch the service for major banks by the end of the year, responding to strong demand from the financial sector for enhanced security and uninterrupted service.

The company plans to complete the installation of IP-MPLS systems at 70 key locations nationwide by the end of this year and expects the new equipment to reduce power consumption by more than 25% compared to existing systems, based on internal tests.
