Korean Air Lines Co. has recently partnered with Japan-based global logistics company Yusen Logistics for a cargo sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) program participation agreement, according to the company on Wednesday.

This agreement is in line with Korean Air's Customer Participating SAF Collaboration Program, which is the first of its kind in the domestic air cargo sector. Yusen Logistics is the first Japanese collaborator in this program, joining in the sustainable transformation of the global aviation industry.

Both companies have agreed to work together to promote the use of SAF in the Asian region, enhancing awareness and joining forces in the aviation logistics industry's response to climate change.

SAF is an alternative fuel made from environmentally friendly sources, capable of being blended with conventional aviation fuel. It can achieve a reduction of over 80% in carbon emissions compared to conventional fossil fuel-based aviation fuel.

The usage of SAF is a global trend. The European Union plans to mandate the use of SAF for all aircraft at its airports in 2025. In the US, tax credit incentives are provided.
