Hyundai Wia Corp., a South Korean automotive parts manufacturer, unveiled its Mobility Manufacturing Total Solution specialized for electric vehicle (EV) production at the SIMTOS 2024, the largest manufactuaring technology exhibition, held at KINTEX in Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province, on Monday.

This solution integrates machine tools with autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and collaborative robots to create a system that manufactures EV components without human intervention.

At the exhibition, Hyundai Wia demonstrated a fully automated process from component transportation to final assembly using one metal processing machine, SE2200M, two 300 kg-class AMRs, and two 15 kg-class collaborative robots.

AMRs transport metal materials to the machine tools, where collaborative robots insert them into the machines for processing and robots retrieve the finished components and transport them to their destinations using AMRs.

Hyundai Wia showcased 18 high-performance machine tools tailored to the changing mobility market, including ten machine tools unveiled for the first time at this exhibition.

The company also conducted machining demonstrations of eight types of EV components, such as electric vehicle-specific motors, converter parts, battery cases, and lightweight wheels.

Hyundai Wia introduced AMRs capable of transporting loads weighing up to 1 ton, considering cases where EV components are heavier than those of conventional internal combustion engine vehicles.

Hyundai Wia supplied AMRs to the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Centre Singapore (HMGICS) last year and plans to supply them to Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) and Hyundai Mobis' North American battery plant.
